Description: This unusual small evergreen tree is the largest flowered Eucalypt with unusual silver green leaves which are closely arranged along the straggling stems.
Flowers: Spectacular flowers to 10cm(4″) across, appearing from late Winter-early Summer, composed of a thick mass of bright red stamens with gold tips emerging from large buds of silver-green.
Soil: Adapts to almost any well-drained soil type. Ensure the soil is just slightly acid (pH level about 6).
Aspects: Open, sunny position.
Habitat: Native to relatively dry areas which have a dry summer. It has been grown in sub tropical areas but is deemed not reliable in those areas. Open sandy areas in warm Mediterranean climates.
Growing: Fill a pot or seed tray with sandy soil. Wet it thoroughly and compress. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil and cover with a thin layer of sand. Place the pot in a warn, shaded position and keep the soil damp but not soggy.
Landscape: Open garden, rockery or shrubbery.
Cultivation: The seeds usually germinate in about 15 days provided the soil is kept damp. Transplant seedlings to individual containers once they are large enough to handle without damage. Water in well and keep the individual containers slightly damp. Plant out to garden, rockery or shrubbery at about 20cm (8″)high.
